AC systems using R22 as the main refrigerant are expected to go obsolete by 2030.

To address this environmental concern, a new type of refrigerant was introduced to modern HVAC systems. Puron, also known as R-410A is a hydrochlorofluorocarbon blend of three chemicals—each having a unique pressure and molecule size. This is considered less harmful to the environment and works better in absorbing and releasing heat. At present, it has become the standard refrigerant for air conditioning units. If you’re planning to pursue a new AC system, most likely it will come with an R-410A refrigerant type.
