AC Repair Project: Lennox System Diagnostics, Pressure Check & Cooling Tune-Up

When the central air conditioner started struggling during the Las Vegas heat, our team at Fast Affordable Air was called in for a full system diagnostic and AC repair. The system in question featured a Lennox gas furnace paired with an outdoor condenser using R-410A refrigerant. The goal: restore peak performance and ensure efficient, reliable cooling.

Step 1: Outdoor Unit Visual & Electrical Inspection

We began by inspecting the outdoor condensing unit located beside the home. The fan blades and coil were free from major debris, but we still performed a general cleaning. We removed the service panel to test voltage and capacitor values using a multimeter and clamp meter.

It’s critical that the capacitor provides the correct microfarad rating for the compressor and fan motor to run efficiently. Any deviation can cause hard starts, increased energy use, or even motor failure over time.

Step 2: Refrigerant Pressure Diagnostics

Next, we connected our Yellow Jacket digital manifold gauge set to the service valves and recorded live pressure readings:

  • High Side (Liquid Line): 336.9 PSI
  • Low Side (Suction Line): 116.1 PSI
  • Refrigerant Type: R-410A

These readings indicate that the refrigerant charge was within acceptable range under current ambient conditions. This means no signs of a leak or undercharge—great news for system efficiency and longevity.

Step 3: Lennox Furnace System Inspection

Inside the attic, we examined the Lennox furnace system. We verified that the electrical board and gas ignition system were functioning correctly. We also inspected the heat exchanger for any signs of wear or corrosion, which can lead to safety hazards or poor airflow.

All wires were secure, the blower motor was operational, and the gas valve had proper supply from the yellow flexible gas line. The PVC condensate drain line was clear and sealed to prevent attic water leaks.

Step 4: Ductwork & Airflow Check

We verified that the foil-insulated ductwork was intact and properly sealed. No significant air leaks were present at the supply or return ducts. We also confirmed that airflow at the registers matched system specifications, ensuring cool air reaches every room without restriction.

Benefits of This AC Repair

  • Improved cooling performance during Las Vegas’ high summer temps
  • Verified refrigerant levels for energy efficiency and proper compressor operation
  • Safe operation of gas furnace and electrical components
  • Longer system lifespan thanks to proactive diagnostics and repairs

This project shows how routine air conditioning repairs and inspections keep your central cooling system running smoothly all season long.
