Fast Affordable Air was called out to a home in Las Vegas after the customer reported that their Air Conditioner was running all day but the house still felt warm. When we arrived, we began our Heating and Cooling inspection both inside and outside the home. The pictures below show the actual tools and equipment used during this service call.
Checking the Refrigerant Pressures
Our technician connected a professional HVAC manifold gauge set to the outdoor condenser. These gauges help us see what is happening inside the Cooling system. The blue gauge is the low side, which tells us what pressure the refrigerant has as it moves back into the compressor. The red gauge is the high side, which shows the pressure after the compressor pushes the refrigerant through the condenser coil.
On this central AC system, the low side measured around 68 psi and the high side measured around 260 psi. For an R-410A unit running in Las Vegas weather, the low side typically sits higher. A low reading often means one of two things. Either the Air Conditioning system is low on refrigerant or there is something restricting airflow inside the home.
When airflow is restricted, the indoor coil gets colder than it should. This lowers the refrigerant pressure and makes the Cooling system work harder while producing less cold air.

Inspecting the Thermostat and Indoor Airflow
Inside the home, the thermostat was set to 78 degrees. The system was running at the time of our inspection. We then checked the indoor return grille, which is a large vent where warm air enters the AC system.
We noticed that the return grille had duct tape around the edges. This usually happens when air is being sucked around the grille instead of through a proper filter slot. When a return grille leaks, the central Air Conditioner can pull dusty attic air or hallway air around the frame. This reduces the amount of clean air moving through the system and slows down Cooling.
Good airflow is one of the most important parts of any HVAC system. Without it, the air inside the home cannot move across the indoor coil fast enough to remove heat.
Outdoor Condenser Inspection
The outdoor condenser panel was removed so we could test the electrical components and check the refrigerant lines. The condenser fan was running normally and there were no signs of overheating. The wiring and contactor looked clean and free of damage.
The pressures, however, continued to show that the system was not operating at full performance. This confirmed that either refrigerant levels were low or indoor airflow needed correction.
Recommended Repairs Based on the Inspection
Based on the readings and the visible air leakage at the return grille, the most likely issue is restricted airflow. When air struggles to move through the return, the AC cannot breathe properly. Over time, this can make the system feel weak or force the compressor to run longer than it should.
The technician recommended checking the filter size, reinstalling the return grille with proper sealing, and inspecting the indoor coil for dust buildup. These steps help restore strong airflow and prevent refrigerant pressures from dropping too low.
