On this service call, the home’s central AC system was struggling because the outdoor unit was not moving air the way it should. The outdoor condenser is the part of the Air Conditioner that sits outside and “throws away” heat from your house. What we saw at the outdoor unit
The first thing we noticed was heavy weather damage on the top of the condenser fan motor. The motor’s top cover was cracked and peeling, and there was visible rust around the mounting area. That kind of damage often shows up after years of hot sun, wind, and moisture. It can also be a warning sign that the motor has been running too hot or has been exposed to water.
Condenser fan motor means the electric motor that spins the big fan on top of the outdoor unit. The fan pulls air through the condenser coil (the “radiator-looking” metal fins) so heat can leave the refrigerant.
Safety first before troubleshooting
Before touching anything, we shut off power at the outdoor disconnect. This is a small electrical box near the condenser that lets a technician safely cut power to the unit. We also confirmed power was off before opening panels.
Step-by-step procedure using the photos
Photo 1: Confirming the replacement motor specs
We selected a TradePro condenser fan motor, model TP-C25-1SP2. The label shows important matching details, like 1/4 HP, 1075 RPM, and 208–230 VAC. It also calls for a 10 µF capacitor.
HP (horsepower) is the motor’s strength. RPM is how fast it spins. Matching these helps the fan move the right amount of air so the AC does not overheat.
The motor label also notes reverse rotation. Rotation is the direction the fan spins. If the rotation is wrong, the fan may push air the wrong way and Cooling gets worse instead of better.

With the system running during testing, we connected digital service gauges at the outdoor unit. These gauges help us read refrigerant pressures and understand how hard the system is working.
Refrigerant is the special fluid inside the AC that carries heat. Think of it like a delivery truck that picks up heat inside your home and drops it off outside.

This close-up shows the cracked and peeling cover and rusted metal underneath. When a motor looks like this, it may still spin sometimes, but it can also stall, slow down noticing the load, or shut off on heat. Any of those problems can cause the condenser coil to get too hot.
When the outdoor coil gets too hot, the system can trip safeties, run longer, and waste energy. It can also shorten the life of the compressor. The compressor is the “heart” of the central Air Conditioning system because it pumps the refrigerant through the loop.

Here you can see the full fan guard and the motor area. Once we confirmed the motor was the weak link, we removed the fan assembly carefully. That includes supporting the fan blade so it does not drop and bend.
Replacing the condenser fan motor
After removing the old motor, we transferred the fan blade to the new motor shaft. We checked that the blade was secure and set to the correct height so it would not rub the grille. Then we mounted the new TradePro motor and routed the wires neatly to prevent pinching.
We followed the wiring diagram on the motor label to connect the leads correctly. A wiring diagram is a small “map” that shows which wire goes where.
Installing the correct run capacitor
The new motor requires a 10 µF capacitor. A run capacitor is like a helper part that gives the motor a steady boost so it can start and keep spinning smoothly. If a capacitor is weak, the motor can struggle, overheat, or fail to start.
Final testing and performance check
After reassembly, we restored power and started the system. We confirmed the fan direction, checked for smooth operation, and listened for abnormal noise. We also watched refrigerant pressures during operation to make sure the outdoor unit was rejecting heat normally.
With the new condenser fan motor and correct capacitor in place, the outdoor unit could move air properly again. That helps the Air Conditioner cool more consistently, especially during peak Las Vegas heat.
