What we saw on the roof
The pictures show a rooftop AC unit sitting on a metal stand above a shingle roof. Rooftop units are common on some homes and buildings because they save yard space and keep the big equipment out of the way.
We also noticed a problem with the electrical protection on the roof. One flexible electrical sleeve (called a conduit) looked torn or split near the fitting. A conduit is like armor for wires. It helps protect wiring from sun, heat, rubbing, and water. When it is damaged, the wiring inside can be at higher risk.
Step 1: Safe access and a quick visual inspection
Before touching anything, our technician checked the work area and accessed the service panel. The service panel is the metal cover that protects the electrical and control parts inside the unit. In the photo, you can see the panel removed and set aside while we work.
We look for simple clues first: loose screws, burnt spots, rubbing wires, oil stains, and anything that looks out of place. A fast visual check can prevent bigger problems later.

Step 2: Hook up gauges to check refrigerant pressures
Next, we connected a Mastercool manifold gauge set to the unit. These gauges help us see how the refrigerant is behaving while the AC is running. Refrigerant is the special fluid inside the system that moves heat out of the home and releases it outside.
In the gauge photo, the blue gauge is the low-side (also called suction) pressure, and the red gauge is the high-side (also called discharge) pressure. The needles appear to be around about 120 psi on the low side and roughly 300–320 psi on the high side (actual “good” numbers depend on outdoor temperature, indoor load, and the type of refrigerant).

Step 3: Check the unit while it runs
While pressures were being monitored, we checked the unit’s operation. That includes listening for unusual noises, confirming the fan is moving air, and making sure panels and wiring are secure. In one photo you can see tools used for service, including an infrared temperature tool, which helps us spot hot spots and confirm air temperatures without touching moving parts.
When an Air Conditioner struggles, it often works longer and harder. That can raise electric bills and wear parts out faster. A proper system check helps catch small issues before they become a no-cooling emergency.
Step 4: Fixing a damaged conduit area (electrical protection)
The torn flexible conduit shown in the close-up photo is important. On a roof, sunlight and heat can dry out materials over time. If the conduit splits, it may let in water or allow the wire jacket to rub. Either issue can cause shorts, nuisance trips, or equipment failure.
A correct repair usually means replacing the damaged section, securing it tightly to the fitting, and making sure the wiring inside is not nicked. It is a small-looking detail that can make a big difference in safety and reliability.
