At Fast Affordable Air, we recently completed an HVAC project in Las Vegas, where we installed a 4-ton 14.3 SEER2 Rheem Endeavor gas furnace and air conditioner system. This residential project brought several challenges and opportunities for innovation, particularly with the layout of the attic and ductwork configuration.
Project Overview
The property featured an existing system that required significant upgrades to improve energy efficiency and indoor air quality. The homeowner was looking for a solution to maintain comfort throughout the year, especially during the hot Las Vegas summers and cooler winters.
Installation Process
Step 1: System Removal
We started by carefully removing the outdated HVAC unit. Our team ensured that all components, including the condenser, furnace, and duct connections, were safely disconnected and disposed of per EPA guidelines.
Step 2: Ductwork Modifications
The attic posed unique challenges with its tight spaces and structural framing. Using flexible yet durable duct materials, we reconfigured the layout to maximize airflow. This involved:
- Installing new insulated ducts to minimize energy loss.
- Securing the ducts with metal straps and braces to prevent sagging over time.
Step 3: Furnace and Coil Installation
The Rheem Endeavor gas furnace was mounted securely on an elevated platform in the attic to protect it from potential water damage. The matching evaporator coil was carefully aligned for optimal cooling performance. To ensure efficiency:
- Refrigerant lines were insulated with foam to prevent thermal loss.
- Drainage pipes were installed with proper slope to prevent clogging.
Step 4: Condenser Setup
The outdoor condenser unit was installed on a leveled concrete pad to ensure stability. We used heavy-duty electrical wiring and conduit to protect against the elements. The refrigerant charge was calibrated using Yellow Jacket test manifolds, as seen in the images, to ensure peak system performance.
Step 5: Final Connections and Testing
Before completing the project, we:
- Connected gas lines with safety shutoff valves.
- Installed a flue pipe for safe venting of combustion gases.
- Conducted a full system test, measuring airflow, refrigerant pressures, and temperature differentials.
