In Las Vegas, an AC system has a tough job. When the sun is intense, a small issue in your Air Conditioner can turn into warm rooms, higher power bills, and extra wear on parts. In this project, Fast Affordable Air inspected and serviced a central AC system with an attic-mounted Bryant furnace and indoor coil, plus an outdoor condensing unit. The goal was simple. Restore strong Cooling, confirm the refrigerant charge, and tighten up airflow in the attic duct system.
Step 1: Check refrigerant pressures the right way
The first photo shows a manifold gauge set connected at the outdoor unit. This tool helps us read system pressures and verify how the refrigerant is behaving while the HVAC system is running.
We do not guess on charge. We compare pressure readings with temperature readings and the unit’s design. Two terms you may hear are superheat and subcooling.
- Superheat is how much the refrigerant vapor warms up above its boiling point after it leaves the indoor coil. Example: if the refrigerant boils at 40°F and then measures 55°F, the superheat is 15°F.
- Subcooling is how much the liquid refrigerant cools below its condensing temperature before it enters the metering device. Example: if it condenses at 100°F and measures 90°F, the subcooling is 10°F.
These checks help protect the compressor, which is the “heart” of the Central Air Conditioning system.
Step 2: Inspect attic duct runs and support
Several photos show the attic space with flexible ducts routed across the trusses. In the attic, ducts should be supported and not squeezed tight, because crushed or sagging ductwork can restrict airflow. Less airflow can make the Air Conditioning system feel weak, even when the outdoor unit is running.
We looked for common problems like loose straps, sharp bends, and damaged duct insulation. Duct insulation matters in Las Vegas because hot attic air can heat up the air inside the duct before it ever reaches the vents.
Step 3: Verify the indoor Bryant furnace and coil area
The Bryant attic unit in the photos is part of a Heating and Cooling setup. In many homes, the furnace cabinet is paired with an indoor evaporator coil for Cooling. When the blower fan runs, it pulls air through the return side, pushes it across the coil, and sends it through the supply ducts into the home.
We inspected the cabinet area and connections, because small air leaks in the attic can cause big comfort issues. The large metal box attached to the unit is often called a plenum.
- Plenum means the main air box that collects or distributes air. Example: the supply plenum is the “main trunk” that feeds multiple ducts to different rooms.
Step 4: Seal and strengthen duct connections
One close-up photo shows multiple insulated flex ducts connected to the supply side. We check each collar and joint where the duct meets the metal plenum. If a joint is loose, the system can dump conditioned air into the attic instead of the living space.
For sealing, the goal is a tight, long-lasting seal. In HVAC work, you may hear the term mastic.
- Mastic is a thick sealant made for duct joints. Example: it is brushed over seams and connections to block air leaks, then it cures into a durable coating.

Step 5: Inspect condensate drain and gas line safety
The attic photo also shows white PVC piping for condensate drainage. When Air Conditioning runs, the indoor coil removes moisture from the air. That water needs a clear path out of the system so it does not overflow in the attic.
We also confirmed the gas line and shutoff positioning around the furnace section. Even if the customer called for central AC issues, it is smart to visually check the full HVAC setup since it is all in one place.
Step 6: Review outdoor condenser condition and line set
The outdoor unit photos show the condensing unit location and the insulated refrigerant lines going into the home. Those copper lines are often called the line set.
- Line set means the two refrigerant lines connecting the indoor and outdoor equipment. The larger insulated line is usually the suction line (cool to the touch when running). The smaller line is the liquid line.
We checked the coil area for airflow clearance, confirmed the unit was operating normally, and used the gauge readings plus temperature checks to make sure the Central Cooling performance matched what the system should be doing.
