Air Conditioning Repair and Refrigerant Recharge in Clark County

Our Fast Affordable Air team recently performed a detailed air conditioning repair and refrigerant recharge on a residential split system in the Las Vegas Valley. This service visit focused on restoring cooling efficiency, verifying refrigerant pressures, and ensuring all attic and outdoor components were performing as designed.

System Inspection and Setup

We began the repair by inspecting both the indoor air handler located in the attic and the outdoor condenser unit positioned along the side of the home. The attic air handler was connected with insulated PVC drain piping, flexible ducts, and sealed refrigerant lines. Ensuring these lines are properly insulated helps prevent condensation and maintains consistent system performance during hot summer days.

Outside, our technicians connected a professional-grade Yellow Jacket manifold gauge set to monitor refrigerant pressures. The blue gauge represents the low-pressure side (suction line), and the red gauge shows the high-pressure side (discharge line). These readings help diagnose how efficiently refrigerant is flowing through the system.

Pressure Diagnostics

The gauge readings showed approximately 115 psi on the low side and around 320 psi on the high side, which are normal operating pressures for an R-410A system on a warm day. R-410A refrigerant is designed for higher pressure operation, allowing the system to produce colder air more efficiently than older refrigerants such as R-22.

These balanced readings confirmed that the system was properly charged and that both the compressor and metering device were functioning correctly. When pressures are too low, it can indicate a refrigerant leak or restriction; when too high, it might suggest airflow blockage or an overcharged system. Regular diagnostic checks like these prevent long-term mechanical strain and unnecessary energy consumption.

Refrigerant Recharge and Line Check

To fine-tune the system, a cylinder of R-410A refrigerant was connected to the charging manifold. The technician carefully added refrigerant while monitoring both the pressure readings and system performance inside the home. This precise balancing ensures that the refrigerant charge matches the manufacturer’s specifications, which is critical for peak energy efficiency and cooling comfort.

We also inspected the condenser coil fins, confirming that they were free from significant dirt or debris buildup. Clean coils allow for proper heat exchange, which helps the compressor run cooler and reduces power consumption. The electrical connections, contactor, and capacitor were also checked to verify they were within proper operating range.

Indoor System Review

In the attic, the gas furnace and evaporator coil assembly were inspected. The PVC drain lines were clear and properly trapped to prevent water backflow. The insulation around the refrigerant lines was in good condition, preventing unwanted energy loss. Airflow was measured and found consistent across the supply ducts, ensuring the entire home receives even cooling.
