Air Conditioning Repair and System Inspection – Las Vegas Project

At Fast Affordable Air, we recently completed a comprehensive HVAC inspection and tune-up in Las Vegas that involved both the outdoor condenser unit and the attic air handler and furnace system. This project is a perfect example of how routine inspections and part upgrades can drastically improve the efficiency, safety, and longevity of a home’s cooling system.

Outdoor Condenser Unit Maintenance

We began outside where the homeowner’s condenser unit was partially blocked by overgrown vegetation. One of the first things we did was clear out the bushes around the condenser. Plants growing too close to the unit can restrict airflow, making the air conditioner work harder and less efficiently.

We inspected the electrical disconnect box and refrigerant lines for any signs of wear, and checked for insulation degradation. The lines appeared to be in good condition, but we always recommend keeping mulch, dirt bags, and debris clear of this area to avoid potential issues down the line.

We verified the refrigerant levels, amperage draw of the compressor, and confirmed that the condenser fan motor was operating within normal specs. Regular checks like these help us prevent failures during the peak of summer when systems are running hardest.

Attic Air Handler and Furnace System Inspection

Inside the attic, we encountered a split system configuration with a gas furnace and attached coil that provides central cooling during the hot Las Vegas months. All accessible duct connections were inspected and verified for tight sealing using foil-backed insulation wrap.

We identified clean flexible ductwork with intact insulation. However, we did ensure all strapping was tight and properly secured to prevent sagging which could block airflow.

One standout part of this visit was the visible PVC drain system installed with a cleanout tee and a safety overflow switch. This type of setup ensures that condensate is removed efficiently and helps avoid ceiling water damage. We flushed the drain line to ensure there were no blockages.

Furnace Cabinet and Gas Line Check

The gas furnace unit had a yellow flex gas line installed, which we checked for proper tightness and leaks. The unit’s blower motor and control board were visually inspected through the access panel, and no corrosion or loose wiring was found. The system included a high-efficiency Lennox unit, which we’ve had great success with in both cooling performance and long-term reliability.

Additionally, we confirmed that the metal flue pipe was securely connected and venting safely through the roof. These small but critical checks help ensure both safe heating operation and efficient airflow during cooling season.

Energy Efficiency and System Longevity

This type of full-system tune-up not only helps catch problems early, but also improves energy efficiency. According to Energy.gov, a clean and properly serviced central air conditioning system can reduce energy use by 5% to 15%.

By improving airflow, verifying refrigerant charge, cleaning the coil, and checking the blower and ductwork, this homeowner can expect more even cooling and lower utility bills during the extreme heat of Nevada summers.
