Air Conditioning Repair on a Comfortmaker Central AC System in Las Vegas

This air conditioning repair project started with a common Las Vegas cooling problem. Initial System Inspection

The outdoor Comfortmaker condenser was inspected first. The condenser is the outside part of the Air Conditioner. It holds the fan, compressor, electrical parts, and coil. The coil is the metal section around the outside of the unit where heat leaves the home.

A Fieldpiece SC260 meter was used to test the system. This tool helps an HVAC technician check electrical readings such as voltage, amperage, and capacitor strength. Amperage means the amount of electrical current being used. A simple example is water moving through a hose. Voltage is like the pressure pushing the water, and amperage is like how much water is flowing.

Testing is important because a weak capacitor can look fine from the outside. The metal can may not always be swollen or leaking. That is why guessing is not enough. The technician checks the reading, compares it to the part rating, and confirms whether the part is still within a safe operating range.

Replacing the 45/5 MFD Dual Run Capacitor

The photos show a 45/5 MFD, 440 VAC dual run capacitor being handled and installed. The terminals on top connect to the compressor, fan, and common wires. Common is the shared connection point used by both sides of the capacitor.

The wiring colors were kept organized during the replacement. This matters because putting a wire on the wrong terminal can stop the Air Conditioning system from running or damage a motor. The new capacitor was secured with a metal strap so it would not move around inside the cabinet.

Indoor Air Handler and Duct Area

The indoor equipment was located in a crowded utility or storage area. The photos show the air handler cabinet, copper refrigerant lines, and insulated ductwork. The air handler is the indoor part that moves air through the home. It usually contains the blower motor and evaporator coil.

The evaporator coil is the indoor coil where warm house air gives up heat. The blower pushes air across that coil, then sends cooled air through the duct system. Ductwork means the tubes or passages that carry air to each room.

Access matters. When boxes, storage items, cords, or other objects are packed around the HVAC unit, it can slow down service and make future repairs harder. A clear service path helps the technician inspect panels, refrigerant lines, drain lines, and wiring without fighting around stored items.
