Air Conditioning Repair on a York Rooftop Package Unit

The red gauge is usually connected to the high-pressure side, also called the liquid side or discharge side depending on where the technician is testing. These readings help the technician understand if the Air Conditioner may be low on refrigerant, overcharged, restricted, or struggling because of airflow problems.

Pressure readings are not judged by the gauge alone. A trained HVAC technician also considers outdoor temperature, indoor temperature, coil condition, blower operation, and the refrigerant type listed on the unit label. This matters because the same pressure can mean different things under different weather conditions.

Inspecting the Compressor and Wiring

Good airflow is just as important as refrigerant charge.
