Air Conditioning Repair Project in Clark County

Our team at Fast Affordable Air was called out to a home in Clark County to inspect two older outdoor air conditioner units and an attic-installed furnace and evaporator coil assembly. The customer noticed weak cooling and uneven temperatures inside the home. Once we arrived, we began a full inspection of the Heating and Cooling system, which includes the central AC equipment inside the attic and the outdoor condensers.

Attic System Inspection

The first step was entering the attic safely. The attic has a narrow walkway made of wooden planks, which is common in many Las Vegas and Henderson homes. We used proper lighting to check for insulation gaps, air leaks, and any signs of overheating around the furnace and ductwork.

We located a York furnace connected to the main supply plenum. A plenum is a metal air box attached to the furnace that sends cooled or heated air into the ductwork. The plenum in this home had spots of old mastic sealant. Mastic is a thick, sticky material used to seal air leaks in duct connections. Re-sealing helps improve airflow and reduces wasted energy.

We also inspected the metal duct transitions and saw that some joints needed reinforcement. Air leaks in these areas can make the Cooling system work harder, raising energy bills. By sealing these connections, the central Air Conditioner can move air more efficiently through the home.

Drain Line and Safety Check

The PVC condensate drain line was also reviewed. This pipe removes water created when warm indoor air meets the cold evaporator coil. A clogged drain line can cause attic water damage. We verified that water was flowing and ensured there were no blockages.

We also checked the flexible gas line going into the furnace. Flex gas lines are designed to move slightly with vibrations from the system. We made sure the fittings were tight and that there were no signs of corrosion or leaks.

Outdoor Condenser Inspection

The outside area revealed two older condenser units showing signs of sun fading, rust buildup, and metal cage deterioration. One of the outdoor fan covers had heavy rust, which can happen due to Las Vegas heat and constant sun exposure.

The refrigerant lines were also examined. The insulation wrap around these lines helps keep the refrigerant cool while traveling to the indoor unit. Some of the insulation was worn down and needed replacement to prevent energy loss.

The electrical disconnect boxes were intact. These boxes allow technicians to safely shut off power before servicing the Air Conditioning system. We verified proper voltage levels and made sure the wiring was secure.

Benefits of the Repairs and Improvements

After completing a full inspection, cleaning components, sealing duct joints, reinforcing metal transitions, and verifying the drain line and wiring, the home’s Cooling performance improved. These steps help:

  • Improve airflow for better indoor comfort
  • Reduce strain on the AC system so it lasts longer
  • Lower monthly energy bills because the system doesn’t have to work as hard
  • Prevent attic leaks and drywall damage
  • Increase safety by ensuring gas and electrical components are working properly

Many homeowners in Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas experience the same issues because attic-installed HVAC systems are exposed to extreme summer temperatures. Regular maintenance helps prevent emergency breakdowns and protects important parts like the evaporator coil, blower motor, and condenser fan motor.
