Air Conditioning Repair: Restoring Cooling Performance in Clark County

Keeping a home cool in Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas means having an air conditioning system that is reliable and efficient. At Fast Affordable Air, our licensed HVAC technicians were called out to inspect and repair a central air conditioning system that was struggling to keep the home comfortable. The thermostat was set to 73 degrees, but the home temperature hovered around 77 degrees, leaving the customer frustrated and uncomfortable.

System Inspection

We began by inspecting the attic air handler unit, which is the indoor part of the HVAC system responsible for circulating air throughout the house. The access door revealed electrical wiring, copper refrigerant lines, and duct connections. During inspection, we noted signs of wiring repairs with wire nuts, wrapped insulation, and taped connections.

Water and Circulation Components

Inside the system, a Taco cartridge circulator pump was installed. This device helps circulate chilled or heated water through the coil. A shut-off valve was also present, which allows service technicians to stop water flow during repairs. These parts are critical in homes that use a hydronic (water-based) coil system to support heating and cooling.

We also checked the PVC condensate line, which drains away the water created when warm air passes over the cold evaporator coil. If clogged, this line can cause water leaks or even system shutdowns.

Air Filters and Indoor Airflow

Next, we examined the return air filter compartment. The filter was extremely dirty and blocked with dust and lint, which reduces airflow and forces the central AC to work harder. Restricted airflow not only makes the cooling less effective but can also freeze the evaporator coil. We replaced the dirty filter with a clean one to restore airflow.

Thermostat Performance

The home was equipped with an Ecobee smart thermostat, which displayed a room temperature of 77 degrees even though the system was set to 73 degrees. Smart thermostats like Ecobee are excellent for monitoring comfort levels and humidity, and they allow homeowners to track system performance in real time.

Electrical Safety and Wiring

During inspection of the attic system, we found several spliced wires secured with wire nuts. While functional, these connections must remain tight and properly insulated to avoid short circuits. Our technician carefully checked these connections to ensure safe operation.

Benefits of Proper Repair

After completing the inspection and making necessary corrections, the central air conditioning system was restored to full performance. Here are the key benefits of this repair:

  • Improved Cooling: With a clean filter and secure connections, the air conditioner was able to deliver cold air effectively.
  • Energy Savings: Removing airflow restrictions helps reduce strain on the blower motor and compressor, lowering energy bills.
  • Longer Equipment Life: Preventing overheating and electrical stress extends the life of major HVAC components.
  • Better Comfort: The smart thermostat was now able to reach and hold the set temperature, keeping the household comfortable.

This project highlights why regular maintenance and professional service are essential for central cooling systems. Whether it’s cleaning filters, inspecting wiring, or checking water pumps, every detail matters in keeping an HVAC system reliable.
