This air conditioning repair project focused on checking why a central AC system was not cooling as well as it should. Fast Affordable Air inspected the outdoor Air Conditioner, tested refrigerant pressure with professional gauges, and checked the indoor evaporator coil for dirt and airflow problems. This type of Cooling issue is common in Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, and nearby areas of Clark County where an AC system has to work hard during hot weather.
The first step was checking the outdoor condenser unit. The condenser is the outside part of a central Air Conditioner. It contains the fan, coil, compressor, and electrical parts that help move heat out of the home. In the photos, the outdoor unit appears clean on the top, with the fan guard in place and the refrigerant service area nearby.
The technician connected a manifold gauge set to the system. A manifold gauge set is a tool HVAC technicians use to read refrigerant pressure. Refrigerant is the special fluid inside the Air Conditioning system that absorbs heat from inside the house and releases it outside. The blue gauge reads the low side pressure, and the red gauge reads the high side pressure. These readings help the technician understand if the AC has the right refrigerant charge, if airflow is weak, or if another part of the system may be struggling.
Refrigerant pressure testing is important because low or high pressure can point to different problems. For example, low pressure may happen when the system is low on refrigerant, when airflow is blocked, or when the indoor coil is too dirty. High pressure may happen when the outdoor coil is dirty, the fan is not moving enough air, or the system is overcharged. The gauges give the technician a better picture instead of guessing.
After the outdoor check, the technician inspected the indoor evaporator coil. The evaporator coil is the cold coil inside the home’s HVAC system. Warm air from the house moves across this coil, and the coil removes heat from the air. The photos show dust and debris collected on the coil fins. Coil fins are thin metal pieces that help air pass through the coil. When they get dirty, air cannot move through the system the right way.
A dirty evaporator coil can cause several problems. The home may cool slowly. The system may run longer than normal. Rooms may feel warm even when the thermostat is set low. The Air Conditioner may also use more electricity because it has to work harder to move cool air through the home.
During this type of Heating and Cooling repair, the technician also checks the copper refrigerant line connection. Copper lines carry refrigerant between the indoor coil and the outdoor condenser. The photos show the line connection near the coil area. These connections need to be secure because any leak can reduce Cooling performance and may cause the central AC system to lose refrigerant over time.
The indoor coil area also had visible insulation around it. Insulation helps control temperature and keeps the HVAC cabinet from losing cool air in the wrong places. If insulation is loose, damaged, or dirty, it can affect system performance and indoor air quality. Indoor air quality means how clean and comfortable the air feels inside the home.
This project shows why a full AC repair check should include both the outdoor unit and the indoor parts. Looking only at the outside condenser may miss a blocked indoor coil. Looking only inside may miss pressure problems or refrigerant issues outside. A complete Air Conditioning inspection gives the technician a better chance to find the real cause of poor Cooling.
