Bryant Central Air Conditioning Repair with Full Diagnostic and Refrigerant Rebalance in Las Vegas

Our team at Fast Affordable Air recently completed a comprehensive air conditioning repair project for a home in Las Vegas. This property is equipped with a Bryant central air conditioning system, combining an outdoor condenser using Puron® (R-410A) and an attic-mounted gas furnace acting as the air handler.

Problem Diagnosis

The homeowner reported uneven cooling, with the AC unit running but not keeping up during peak heat hours. We arrived onsite and began with a full visual inspection of the outdoor condenser. The unit appeared to be structurally intact, but performance issues often go deeper than surface-level appearance.

Initial Refrigerant Pressure Readings

Using a digital Yellow Jacket manifold gauge set, we connected to the outdoor condenser to assess refrigerant levels. The first reading showed:

  • High side: 317 PSI
  • Low side: 108 PSI

These numbers were off from the optimal operating range for R-410A systems, especially considering ambient conditions. This indicated a refrigerant imbalance, possibly from loss over time or previous improper charging.

Indoor System Inspection

Next, we moved into the attic where the Bryant gas furnace is installed. This unit handles air circulation and heating in the winter. We inspected all electrical connections, flame sensors, blower motor, and return and supply duct sealing. The supply plenum and flex duct connections were tight, though some areas were retaped and strapped to prevent future air leakage.

We also noticed that some areas of the metal duct were dusty, which can affect airflow resistance and efficiency. This attic had reflective insulation on the roof deck, helping to reduce radiant heat load and supporting system efficiency.

Refrigerant Rebalancing and System Tuning

After sealing any minor leaks and checking the metering device for restrictions, we evacuated and recharged the system with fresh R-410A. The final gauge readings showed:

  • High side: 204 PSI
  • Low side: 206 PSI

This is much closer to the expected pressure-temperature correlation for R-410A under Las Vegas ambient temperatures. The outdoor unit was running smoothly and quietly after recharging, indicating proper compressor and fan function.

Why Bryant and R-410A Matter

Bryant HVAC systems are known for reliability and compatibility with high-efficiency refrigerants like Puron (R-410A). R-410A is chlorine-free, which means it doesn’t deplete the ozone layer. It also operates at higher pressures than older refrigerants like R-22, allowing for greater efficiency—when charged correctly.

Benefits to the Homeowner

  • Consistent cooling: The temperature is now stable throughout the house, even during the hottest parts of the day.
  • Improved energy efficiency: Proper refrigerant charge reduces compressor workload and short cycling.
  • Longer system life: A balanced and sealed system reduces wear on major components.
  • Cleaner air: Proper airflow and duct sealing ensure contaminants stay out of circulation.

This project showcases why it’s important to hire licensed HVAC contractors like Fast Affordable Air—serving Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas—with the experience and tools to diagnose and fix issues thoroughly.
