In this recent air conditioning repair project, the Fast Affordable Air team was called out to service a residential central cooling system in Las Vegas. The homeowner reported that the air coming from their vents was weak and the cooling was inconsistent—classic signs of system inefficiency. Our HVAC technician conducted a full system inspection, beginning with the outdoor condenser units and finishing with a detailed check of the attic-mounted air handler and ductwork.
Outdoor Goodman Condenser Diagnosis
We started outside by inspecting the Goodman central AC condenser units. These systems are responsible for releasing the heat pulled from inside the house. Our technician opened the panel and found aging wiring and a dual-run capacitor showing early signs of failure. The capacitor is a component that helps start the fan motor and compressor. When weak or failing, it can cause the fan to run slowly or not at all—leading to reduced cooling performance.
We replaced the faulty capacitor and checked the refrigerant levels using our manifold gauges. We also examined the suction and discharge lines, confirming they were properly insulated and leak-free.
Attic Air Handler and Ductwork Inspection
Next, we moved into the attic to assess the air handler, duct connections, and the gas line hookup. The air handler pushes the conditioned air through the ductwork. We verified the integrity of the sheet metal housing and sealed insulation, checking for air leaks. A major concern in older systems is deteriorated or poorly insulated ductwork, but this setup had foil-wrapped flex ducts in great condition, securely strapped and properly routed.
Drainage and Safety Features
Proper drainage is critical in air conditioning systems to avoid water buildup. We inspected and cleared the condensate drain piping made of white PVC. This ensures any condensation formed during the cooling cycle is safely removed from the unit. Additionally, we verified that the gas line—used for heating during cooler months—was secure, leak-free, and compliant with local building codes.
Electrical Safety and Operational Check
Before wrapping up, we checked the outdoor disconnect box and verified electrical continuity to ensure safe, reliable power delivery to the HVAC system. The disconnect box is a safety feature that allows the technician to quickly shut off power during repairs or maintenance. It’s required for code compliance and technician safety.
System Test and Final Results
With all repairs completed, we powered on the central AC system and monitored its operation. The blower motor kicked on, the refrigerant pressures were within spec, and the air temperature at the supply vents quickly dropped into the ideal cooling range. The homeowner noticed immediate improvements in airflow and comfort.
This project demonstrates the importance of seasonal maintenance and the value of partnering with a trusted HVAC contractor like Fast Affordable Air, serving Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, and surrounding areas. Our expert technicians ensure your home stays cool and efficient—even in the desert heat.
