When your air conditioner and heating system start showing signs of trouble, it takes careful inspection and expert repair to restore comfort. Our recent project involved a full diagnostic of a central HVAC system, including the indoor gas furnace in the attic and the outdoor condenser unit.
Step 1: Electrical Diagnostics
We started by opening the furnace’s control compartment. Using a digital multimeter, we measured voltage and amperage. The tool showed very low current draw (0.061A). This is important because it helps us verify if control boards, relays, and sensors are functioning correctly. Without proper readings, a furnace can fail to power the blower motor, leaving the home without cooling or heating.
Step 2: Furnace and Vent Inspection
The attic furnace, a Rheem unit, was inspected for secure mounting and proper duct connections. We checked the galvanized steel flue vent that exhausts gases safely out of the home. Improper venting can cause dangerous buildup of carbon monoxide. Reinforcing the vent connections with screws and sealant ensures long-term safety and efficiency.
Step 3: Gas Line Safety
We inspected the flexible gas line with its dedicated shutoff valve. This ensures safe servicing and proper fuel supply to the furnace burners. Over time, fittings can loosen, so confirming no leaks are present is a standard safety procedure.
Step 4: Control Board and Wiring
The circuit board inside the furnace is like the “brain” of the system. It manages fan timing, ignition, and safety switches. We verified that the color-coded wiring harness was properly secured and tested individual low-voltage connections. Reliable connections reduce the chance of intermittent failures that can leave homeowners without air conditioning in the Las Vegas summer heat.
Step 5: Outdoor Condenser Unit
Outside the home, the air conditioning condenser was protected by a mesh cover to block debris. This helps extend coil life by reducing clogs from leaves and dust. A clean outdoor unit allows for efficient heat transfer, which improves central cooling performance and lowers energy bills.
Benefits of Professional Repair
Through this project, we ensured:
- Energy efficiency – Clean electrical readings and secure connections prevent wasted power.
- Safety – Proper venting and gas inspections protect the home from fire and fumes.
- Comfort – A tuned system provides even air conditioning and heating throughout the house.
- Longer equipment life – Preventative care reduces strain on motors, boards, and coils.
