Step 1: Checking Refrigerant Pressures With Digital Gauges

We connected our Yellow Jacket digital manifold gauges to read the system’s pressures. These gauges help us see what is happening inside the HVAC system without opening any sealed lines. In the first readings, the low side showed about 85.8 psi and then 91.8 psi. The high side showed 282.7 psi and 289.2 psi. For a normal R-410A system running under load, these numbers tell us how well refrigerant is moving through the coil.

A gauge set is a tool that reads refrigerant pressure. Think of it like a doctor’s stethoscope. It tells us if the AC system’s “heartbeat” is strong or weak. When pressures rise or fall outside the normal range, it usually means a few things. It can point to dirty coils, low airflow, or incorrect refrigerant levels.

Step 2: Inspecting the Outdoor Condenser

The outdoor unit was opened for a full inspection. This included the fan motor, top housing, side panels, and condenser coil. The homeowner’s backyard gets direct sunlight, which can make the condenser work harder. Any debris or airflow blockage can raise system pressures, so our team checked the grills, base, and coil panels.

The outdoor coil appeared clean and open, which helps the refrigerant release heat quickly. This is important because Las Vegas temperatures can reach well over 110 degrees, and the condenser must stay free of dirt to avoid overheating.

Step 3: Inspecting the Furnace and Indoor Components

Since this home uses a central Air Conditioning system with an attic-mounted furnace as the air handler, we inspected the blower area, safety switches, drain connections, and internal wiring. The pictures show the draft inducer motor and pressure switch wiring. No burn marks, broken wires, or loose connections were found.

We also checked the foil-lined insulation inside the furnace cabinet. Clean insulation helps prevent heat transfer and keeps the conditioned air cooler before it goes into the ducts.

Step 4: Electrical Testing

We used a multimeter to confirm voltage levels. The reading showed 253.4 volts, which is normal for many Las Vegas homes with higher line voltage. Proper voltage ensures the compressor and outdoor fan motor can run at full strength. Low voltage can cause overheating, hard-start conditions, and long-term compressor damage.

What These Results Tell Us

The refrigerant pressures were in the expected range for an R-410A system running under load. This indicates the system is charged correctly and refrigerant is circulating as designed. The indoor and outdoor components were functioning normally, with good airflow and proper electrical supply.

Whenever we test an Air Conditioner, we compare our readings with system specifications, outdoor temperature, indoor temperature, and airflow conditions. This helps us locate problems before they become bigger. For example, if the coil were dirty or airflow was weak, pressures would be much lower or much higher. If the compressor were struggling, the readings would swing out of range. None of those issues were found here.
