Introduction
This residential air conditioning project took place at 427 Waterbrook Dr, Henderson, NV, where we installed a 4-ton Rheem Endeavor Gas Furnace and Air Conditioner with a 14.3 SEER2 rating. The task involved upgrading an outdated HVAC system to improve energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and comfort in the home. One unique aspect of this project was the attic-based installation, which posed a challenge in terms of accessibility and ductwork repair. The new system is an excellent fit for the Las Vegas climate, which experiences extreme summer heat and requires a robust, energy-efficient air conditioning solution.
Installation Process
The installation began with removing the old HVAC unit. We carefully disconnected the old wiring and ductwork to prepare for the new Rheem system. In particular, the tight attic space required precise ductwork adjustments to ensure a seamless fit for the new system.
Step 1: Removal of the old system: We carefully disassembled the existing HVAC system and inspected the ductwork for any potential issues. This allowed us to repair any leaks or damage that could have reduced efficiency.
Step 2: Positioning the new furnace and air conditioner: Once the old system was removed, we installed the new 4-ton Rheem Endeavor Gas Furnace. The photos show the system securely mounted, with reinforced suspension to ensure durability in the attic space.
Step 3: Duct connections: After the furnace was positioned, we connected the ductwork. The flexible ducting shown in the images ensures efficient airflow throughout the house. We also made sure to seal all duct connections to prevent air leaks, improving the system’s overall efficiency.
Step 4: Condenser unit setup: Outside the house, the new condenser was placed on a leveled concrete slab to prevent shifting. The condenser unit works together with the furnace and evaporator coil to cool the air and maintain indoor comfort during Henderson’s hot summer months.
Step 5: Smart thermostat installation: As part of the project, we also integrated a smart thermostat to provide the homeowner with better control over their HVAC system. This not only improves convenience but also contributes to energy savings by optimizing temperature settings based on occupancy.
Innovative Techniques and Equipment
One of the innovative solutions we used was a UV air purifier, visible in the third image. This device is installed within the ductwork and is designed to kill airborne bacteria and viruses, improving indoor air quality. In homes like this one, where space is tight, such purifiers are highly beneficial, helping reduce allergens and mold.
Additionally, the new system features a 14.3 SEER2 rating, which stands for “Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio.” This rating measures the system’s cooling output versus the amount of energy it uses. A higher SEER rating means better energy efficiency, which results in lower energy bills for the homeowner. The Rheem unit was chosen because of its ability to provide powerful cooling while keeping energy consumption low—a must in Las Vegas, where air conditioning runs for long hours during the summer.
