Air Conditioning Repair for a Damaged Indoor Furnace and Outdoor Unit in Las Vegas

At Fast Affordable Air, our licensed HVAC team recently responded to a central air conditioning issue involving a worn-down furnace system and neglected outdoor condenser unit in Las Vegas. The customer reported poor cooling performance and strange noises from the indoor closet unit.

Step-by-Step Diagnosis and Repair

1. Inspecting the Indoor Furnace Compartment

Upon removing the cover, we found the gas furnace unit severely contaminated with dirt, corrosion, and loose wiring. The blower compartment was extremely dusty, and several control wires were unsecured, posing a risk of short circuits. Additionally, the blower motor housing was showing signs of wear, and the flexible gas line was kinked where it enters the burner compartment.

More importantly, the condensate drainage line—responsible for draining moisture from the coil—was missing or disconnected, which likely caused the floor rust and visible damage at the cabinet base. This can lead to water pooling and mold growth if not corrected.

2. Condenser Unit Outside – Covered in Debris

Outside the home, we located the central air conditioning condenser unit. It was completely surrounded by dry weeds, dirt, and trash. This debris restricts airflow through the coil fins, forcing the compressor to work harder and run hotter, shortening its lifespan.

The electrical whip (conduit) leading to the unit was exposed and lying unsecured on the ground. Not only is this a tripping hazard, but it also increases the risk of weather damage to the wiring. Additionally, the disconnect box appeared aged, and we noted surface rust along the base pad.

3. System Cleaning and Repair Actions

  • We vacuumed and wiped down the blower compartment, checking all wiring and retightening loose connections.
  • Secured the control board wires using proper twist caps and wire ties to avoid electrical shorts.
  • Repaired and secured the gas flex line and verified there were no gas leaks at the manifold.
  • Added and re-piped a proper PVC condensate drainage line to ensure moisture would no longer collect at the base.
  • Cleaned the outdoor condenser coil with low-pressure water and coil-safe solution to restore airflow.
  • Elevated and strapped the electrical whip leading to the condenser unit.
  • Recommended upgrading the disconnect box and pad in a future service for safety and performance.

Why These Fixes Matter

Central cooling systems are only as strong as their weakest component. A dirty or neglected blower can drastically reduce airflow, making your system feel like it’s “running but not cooling.” Likewise, clogged outdoor coils and loose electrical components can cause shutdowns or compressor damage, often resulting in costly replacements.

By performing a full inspection and repair both inside and outside, we restored this home’s cooling capacity, improved energy efficiency, and helped avoid a summer breakdown. With temperatures rising in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Henderson, these types of maintenance calls are not just helpful—they’re essential.
