A lot of homes in Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas have their HVAC equipment split into two main parts. One part sits outside (the outdoor condenser unit), and the other part sits inside, often in the attic (the air handler with the evaporator coil). When either part has a problem, your AC, Air Conditioner, central AC, or Central Air Conditioning can struggle to cool.
In this project, Fast Affordable Air inspected the attic unit, checked the duct system, verified the condensate drain, and reconnected and tested the refrigerant lines so the Cooling system could run safely and efficiently again. We also performed a deep vacuum on the refrigerant circuit and verified it with a digital micron gauge.

The first photo shows an attic-installed air handler cabinet with a Rheem badge. Think of the air handler as the “indoor fan box” that pushes air through your ductwork. Inside the cabinet is the evaporator coil, which is the cold part that pulls heat out of your home’s air.
Simple definitions
- Evaporator coil is the cold metal coil that absorbs heat, like how a cold soda can pulls heat from your hand.
- Refrigerant line set is the pair of copper pipes that carry refrigerant between the indoor unit and the outdoor unit.
- Condensate is water made when warm indoor air hits a cold coil. It is like water droplets on a cold drink.
During service, we keep the cabinet secured, confirm panels fit correctly, and make sure any wires and tubing are routed neatly. This matters because loose panels can cause air leaks, and air leaks can reduce comfort and waste energy.

The outdoor unit is the part that releases heat to the outside air. On a hot Vegas day, it has to work extra hard, so good airflow around the unit and proper refrigerant setup matters a lot. In the photos, the condenser sits on a stable pad with clearance around the coil panels.
You can also see the insulated suction line where it enters the wall. The suction line is the bigger copper pipe and it is cold when the system runs. The insulation helps stop sweating and dripping, and it keeps the refrigerant cool on the way back to the outdoor unit.
Quick safety note
The outdoor disconnect and electrical panel area should only be opened by trained technicians. AC equipment uses high voltage, and it can be dangerous.
Picture 3, Attic ductwork and line set connections
The attic photo shows foil-wrapped duct runs and the top of the air handler. The flexible ducts carry conditioned air to rooms and bring warm air back. In summer, the attic can feel like an oven, so we look for crushed ducts, loose connections, and insulation gaps.
You can also see the copper refrigerant lines entering the cabinet. The dark rubber “boots” and insulation help protect the lines and reduce vibration. When a line set is installed and sealed correctly, it helps the Heating and Cooling system run smoother and last longer.
Picture 4, Condensate drain line routing
The PVC drain line shown in the attic is there to move condensate water away from the unit. If that drain gets clogged, water can overflow into the attic and cause ceiling damage. That is why we check that the drain is supported, sloped the right way, and not sagging.
What “sloped the right way” means
The pipe should gently tilt downhill so gravity can pull water out, kind of like a slide at a playground.

One of the most important steps in many air conditioning repairs and restarts is making sure the refrigerant circuit is clean and dry inside. To do that, we use a vacuum pump and a digital gauge that reads in microns. In the photo, the Fieldpiece gauge shows 402 microns.
What is a micron
A micron is a tiny unit used to measure how “empty” the system is during a vacuum. Lower numbers usually mean less air and less moisture inside the sealed refrigerant lines. Moisture in the system can cause poor cooling and damage over time.
Getting down around the 400-micron range is a strong sign the evacuation was deep. This step helps protect the compressor, which is the “heart” of the system that pumps refrigerant. A healthy compressor helps your central Air Conditioner cool better and can help avoid big breakdowns.

The attic access photo shows the entry point used to reach the equipment safely. Attic service is not glamorous, but it is where many key parts live in Las Vegas homes. Good access matters because it lets a technician inspect the ductwork, confirm connections, and service the air handler without rushing.
