In this recent project, our Fast Affordable Air team was called to a home in Las Vegas to service a dual central air conditioning system that was underperforming. The customer reported poor airflow and inconsistent cooling throughout the home—common signs that one or more parts of an HVAC system may be struggling to keep up, especially in the intense desert heat.
Diagnosing the Issue
Once on-site, our technicians performed a full diagnostic inspection. The home featured two large outdoor condenser units connected to two indoor gas furnace systems with evaporator coils. These are part of what’s called a split system, where part of the air conditioner is located inside and the other part is outside. These systems rely on refrigerant lines to transfer heat from indoors to outside, keeping indoor temperatures comfortable.
We began with the outdoor condensers. Both units were visually inspected for electrical issues, refrigerant leaks, and dirt buildup. We also examined the disconnect boxes (pictured here) that serve as the main electrical safety switches for outdoor units.
Inside the Furnace Room
Moving indoors, we opened up the gas furnaces and inspected the control boards, blower motors, gas valve connections, and drain piping. Our team found that the electrical components inside the blower compartments were functioning but beginning to wear down. We also spotted condensation backup in the drainage lines that could have eventually led to water damage or mold.
The ductwork, wrapped in flexible silver insulation, had some minor leaks where it connects to the furnace cabinet. We resealed these joints using UL-approved aluminum foil tape, restoring airflow efficiency.
Refrigerant Line Check and Filter Dryer Installation
We pressure-tested the refrigerant lines for both systems. Refrigerant is a special fluid that absorbs heat from inside and releases it outside. One of the lines had slight moisture buildup and signs of past leaks. To correct this, we installed new filter driers. A filter drier is a component that removes moisture and contaminants from the refrigerant before it cycles through the system. Moisture in the refrigerant can damage the compressor, so replacing or installing a filter drier is a vital step to protect the entire system.
You can see the blue canister-shaped filter drier installed vertically just before the evaporator coil in the indoor images. This upgrade helps ensure clean refrigerant flow and extends the life of the HVAC system.
Benefits of the Service
With the repairs completed and systems recharged, this dual-zone setup is now back to delivering reliable central air conditioning throughout the property. Here are a few key benefits the homeowner is enjoying now:
- Stronger and more even airflow to every room
- Improved energy efficiency, reducing monthly utility bills
- Longer equipment life due to clean refrigerant and sealed ducts
- Quiet operation thanks to serviced blower motors and condenser fans
This project shows the importance of routine inspections and proactive HVAC repairs. Whether you’re in Henderson, North Las Vegas, or anywhere in Clark County, having a well-maintained cooling system is essential during the sweltering summer months.
