Rooftop HVAC Repair and Refrigerant Diagnostics in Las Vegas

Our team at Fast Affordable Air recently completed a comprehensive rooftop air conditioning repair project in Las Vegas. The job involved a Rheem rooftop packaged unit that required refrigerant diagnostics, system balancing, and internal coil inspection to restore cooling performance.

Initial Inspection and Setup

The first step in servicing this HVAC system was a detailed rooftop inspection. The gas line and electrical conduit were checked for secure connections. The rooftop installation was properly flashed and sealed to prevent water leaks — an important detail in Las Vegas where both summer rains and extreme heat can challenge rooftop units.

Refrigerant Pressure Readings

We connected our Yellow Jacket digital manifold gauges to the system’s refrigerant ports. The system uses R-410A, a high-efficiency refrigerant designed for modern central air conditioning systems. Initial readings showed:

  • Low Side: 113.3 psi at 34.3°F
  • High Side: 296.5 psi at 92.0°F

These values indicated the unit needed further monitoring under load to ensure refrigerant charge was within manufacturer specifications. After adjustments and run time, stabilized readings were:

  • Low Side: 214.5 psi at 70.8°F
  • High Side: 218.7 psi at 77.0°F

Proper refrigerant charge is critical — low refrigerant can cause coil freezing and compressor damage, while overcharging can lead to high head pressures and reduced efficiency.

Internal Coil and Blower Inspection

We accessed the blower compartment and evaporator coil section. Both coils were clean and free of debris, which is important for unrestricted airflow. The blower wheel and motor were also inspected for signs of wear. A clean coil surface ensures better heat transfer, allowing the central cooling system to operate efficiently and maintain comfortable indoor temperatures.

System Performance and Benefits

With the refrigerant levels corrected and the airflow confirmed, the Rheem rooftop unit now runs more efficiently. The benefits of this repair include:

  • Improved indoor comfort with balanced cooling throughout the home.
  • Reduced energy consumption, helping lower utility bills.
  • Extended equipment life by reducing strain on the compressor and blower motor.
  • Lower risk of unexpected breakdowns during peak summer heat.

Why Professional Refrigerant Diagnostics Matter

Refrigerant pressures are not something homeowners should guess about — specialized tools and knowledge are required. As Energy.gov notes, proper refrigerant charge is key to efficiency and system longevity. A difference of just a few psi can make a noticeable impact on cooling performance.

For rooftop packaged systems in Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas, professional servicing ensures your heating and cooling system performs reliably year-round.
